Open-Access Block Grant FWF

The Open-Access Block Grant replaced the FWF's "Refereed Publications" programme on January first 2024.

Open-Access Policy  FWF applies.

The financial support is aimed at project managers and employees of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) in ongoing FWF projects (or projects that have been completed for a maximum of 24 months at the time of application) that are based at the OeAW.

Eligible to apply

First authors and corresponding authors of a journal publication who have a current employment contract at the Austrian Academy of Sciences at the time of submission and are working or have worked on the FWF project in question are eligible to apply.
 

Funding amount

There is no funding limit.

Eligible contributions in edited volumes

A contribution can only be funded via the Open Access block grant if the entire edited volume is published Open Access. Alternatively, the entire edited volume can be funded via the FWF's "Book Publications" programme. Please contact the FWF directly regarding the criteria.

Further requirements

• Refereed publication that results or has resulted from FWF funding (up to a maximum of 24 months after the end of the project).
• The following text must be included in the acknowledgement of the publication:
  This research was funded in whole, or in part, by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) [Grant DOI number]. For the purpose of Open-Access, the author has applied a CC BY public copyright licence to any Author Accepted Manuscript version arising from this submission.
• Page charges, colour figures etc. are not funded.
• Publication costs can be refunded for projects that were completed with the OeAW research centre up to 24 months after the end of the project or the end of the funding period of the project.
• Publication costs in hybrid journals are only covered within the framework of Open-Access publishing agreements of the Open-Access Block Grant. The "FWF grant DOI number" must be specified when submitting the article. The check is carried out by the library's.
